A Powerful Partnership
At the University of Pittsburgh, students pursuing careers in the health sciences are immersed in a culture that values interprofessional team-based care. Interprofessionalism is becoming the standard of practice in all health care settings, as recommended by the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine; World Health Organization; and many of our most respected professional societies. Interprofessional practice and education are now included in accreditation standards for schools of nursing, dental medicine, public health, pharmacy and osteopathic medicine, as well as those that offer programs in physical and occupational therapy. At Pitt, we not only embrace this concept, we aspire to be a national model for its implementation. (Photo provided by Joe Appel Photography.)
